Our Inspiration

Meet Mary Byerlay, registered nurse, and mother of At Your Service for Seniors President, Joan Turner.
Honoured to have been the daughter of an amazing woman – A compassionate, intelligent, dairy farm operator, manager and Public Health Nurse who steadfastly remained living in her own home until she passed away in June 2012. I shall always strive to make her proud!
At Your Service for Seniors can make staying at home possible for you or your loved one by providing appropriate in home assistance and companionship.

Client Bill of Rights and Responsibilities
A ‘Bill of Rights’ is a formal summary of privileges and liberties considered essential to a group of people. In the provision of services, At Your Service for Seniors clients have the following rights.
- The right to be treated courteously & respectfully, free from any type of abuse including physical, sexual, mental, emotional, verbal or financial and free from discrimination as per the Human Rights Code or Canadian Charter of Rights & Freedoms.
- The right to expect safe, kind and competent care and services at a level that meets their needs.
- The right to receive services in a way that respects who you are and is sensitive to what you prefer, based on your race, religion, language, family background and culture.
- If you are First Nations, Metis or Inuk you have the right to receive care and services in a way that culturally safe. At Your Service for Seniors and the Associate(s) need to respond to your culture and help you feel safe while you are receiving care and / or services.
- The right to have their property treated with respect.
- The right to privacy while receiving care and/ or services.
- The right to maintain confidentiality with regard to information about health, social and financial circumstances, and about what takes place in their homes.
- Further the right to expect that the Associate or AYSFS will only release information if clients give authorization and/or it is a requirement of law.
- The right to be spoken to or communicated with in a manner or language they can understand or that their power of attorney / next of kin can understand; if client is not able to make competent decisions then power of attorney / next of kin / guardian may exercise the rights on their behalf.
- The right to express dissatisfaction regarding services or policies that affect you without fear of recrimination, discrimination, coercion or reprisal.
- The right to be asked to participate in the development or review of a plan for their care and /or services or, as requested, the right to have a person of their choosing involved or substitute decision maker.
- The right to have a say in when the service will be delivered (where possible).
- The right to be informed of the Associate(s) that will be delivering the services.
- The right to be notified orally, and/ or in writing / email regarding their financial liabilities for services and care.
- The right to be told about these rights and responsibilities by the Associate and/ or At Your Service for Seniors.
Client Responsibilities
- Responsible to behave in a manner that is courteous and respectful, free from any type of abuse including physical, mental, sexual, verbal or financial towards anyone connected with At Your Service for Seniors
- Responsible to provide complete information about matters relating to their health and abilities, especially when it could influence the care /support they are being given.
- Responsible to report any potential risks that might exist that might cause concerns for Associates or Admin from AYSFS e.g. Client/family member may have a contagious illness or condition, vicious dog, etc.
- Responsible to advise AYSFS of unexpected changes in the clients’ conditions (as appropriate) e.g. client has had a small stroke.
- Clients, POA, NoK, Guardians are responsible to ask questions. e.g.: Especially when they do not understand the care or service being given or any administrative concerns.
- Responsible to express any concerns they have about anything regarding the care & services they receive, including the Associate.
- Responsible to follow the terms and conditions of agreements.
- Clients/families are responsible to notify the Associate or AYSFS of any changes to the work schedule, giving appropriate notice in advance as per service agreement.
- Clients/families should notify the Associate and/or AYSFS of any advanced directives that they have in place (e.g. Do Not Resuscitate order).
- Clients, POA, NoK, Guardians should be considerate of property belonging to the Associate or AYSFS.
- Clients/families should notify Associate or AYSFS of any changes to their contact information including email, address, phone number, etc.
- Clients/families are responsible for paying their bills according to agreed upon rates and timeframes.
- Clients/families should provide a safe environment for care and services to be delivered.
- Clients/families should respect and care for equipment left in their homes.
